US Department of Energy Offers Undergraduate Internships for Spring 2024

Recipients will work directly with scientists and engineers in 17 participating DOE labs.

The US Department of Energy is accepting applications for two programs offering Spring 2024 internships. The programs are designed to provide practical experience for future scientists who are still undergraduates. The programs are:

  • Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI), which is intended to encourage “undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories.”
  • Community College Internships (CCI), an effort to “encourage community college students to enter technical careers relevant to the DOE mission by providing technical training experiences at the DOE laboratories.”

The internships will fill available spots at 17 participating research institutions. “Interns work directly with national laboratory scientists and engineers, assisting them on research or technology projects that support the DOE mission.” The DOE will hold three online workshops that provide an introduction to the program and the application process. See the press release on the DOE website.
