Caché Database Now Offers High Availibility

The commercial database system Caché has made itself highly available due to its new version including mirroring.

The software manufacturer Intersystems has trimmed its new version of the database system Caché to high-availibilty. It also supports further mirroring scenarios. The most simple case is that in which the second server mirrors the database of the first server. Clients can access the database over a so-called Mirror Virtual IP, even if the first node fails. In addition Caché also supports asynchronous mirrors on further servers, which can be used for example for reporting. In this way, different company locations can be insynch with each other.

Apart from high-availibility, the new version of Caché also includes an interface for Java programming called Caché eXTreme for Java. This is supposed to guarantee high-performance when accessing the database due to the Java Native Interface.

Caché runs SQL queries five times faster than relational databases, according to the vendor, and is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, Unix and OpenVMS. The prices range from USD 220 to 1390 per user, depending on the configuration. A free version, which is fully-functional and without a time limit, can be downloaded from the Intersystems website.
