By

The free clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux has released a Live CD distribution.

The free CentOS Linux distribution has released Live CD images of the 6.0 release that is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0. The developers have used the Fedora live media tools for creating the Live CD images. Among the packages are the Linux kernel 2.6.32, Glibc 2.12 and the Bash Shell 4.1. It also includes the Gnome desktop environment with Firefox, Thunderbird, Gimp, Gthumb and Pidgin, but some other applications are missing.

The release notes provide more information on the Cent OS live CD, that can also be used for installing the operating system on hard disk. ISO images for x86 and x86_64 are available through the mirrors.
