Hortonworks unveils Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) 1.0.

According to the announcement, HDP, an open source platform powered by Apache Hadoop, provides a comprehensive infrastructure that provides the vital management, monitoring, metadata and data integration services needed by organizations to manage Big Data. HDP also provides services for integrating and extending existing data architectures, which lets users quickly gain insight and value from massive amounts of structured and unstructured data.

HDP is designed for data management professionals and allows enterprises to load and persistently store data in any format and at any volume. HDP includes common capabilities for scripting (Pig), query (Hive), scheduling and workflow (Oozie), NoSQL database (HBase), and other components. HDP also offers essential capabilities, such as: cluster provisioning and setup (Apache Ambari), management and monitoring services (Apache Ambari), metadata services (Apache HCatalog), and data integration services (Talend Open Studio).

Hortonworks provides three different levels of support for Hortonworks Data Platform. Organizations choosing support receive access to a knowledge base including expert articles, end-user forums, email and phone support, as well as patches and regular upgrades to HDP.
