OpenSTX Foundation Aims to Create Open Standard for Industrial Wireless Networking

By

The collaborative project is part of the Linux Foundation.

The OpenSTX Foundation has been launched as a collaborative project to support development and adoption of an enterprise-ready open specification for Synchronous Transmission (STX)-based wireless networking.

“STX provides a breakthrough alternative to conventional wireless systems, enabling tightly synchronized transmissions with near-zero collision, interference, or latency,” the announcement says.” Potential applications include:

  • Industrial control and automation
  • Smart cities and infrastructure
  • Disaster response communications
  • Asset tracking and logistics

The vendor-neutral OpenSTX Foundation – which was formed under the Linux Foundation – aims to define a universal, open standard for STX-based protocols in low-power wireless networks. “By focusing on standard interfaces and rigorous testing, we aim to ensure that STX-based systems from different vendors and research groups can interoperate out of the box,” the website states.
