Alpha Version of KDE Linux Released
The KDE team has announced the alpha release of its KDE Linux operating system and invites users to test it.
According to the team announcement, KDE Linux “is intended for daily driving that showcases Plasma and KDE software in the best light, and makes use of modern technologies.”
The Testing Edition provides built-from-git-master versions of Plasma, KWin, and KDE apps, the website says, and is “designed to be safe, maintainable, functional, and modern.” However, the alpha release contains multiple known issues and has so far received only limited testing.
That said, things that work include:
- Getting apps from Flathub.
- Developing KDE and third-party software.
- System updating using Discover and the command-line.
- System rollbacks.
KDE Linux Alpha is not recommended for production but should be generally “usable for adventurous people.”
