IBM Releases Reference Architecture for Quantum-Centric Supercomputing

The architecture is built on open software and standard interfaces.

IBM has released a quantum-centric supercomputing (QCSC) reference architecture as a new “blueprint for integrating quantum computing into modern supercomputing environments.”

According to the company, the reference architecture outlines a practical, scalable path for combining quantum hardware and classical computing infrastructure into a unified environment. This approach “includes CPU and GPU clusters, high-speed networking, and shared storage, to support computationally intensive workloads.”

Additionally, IBM says, the architecture is built on “open software, standard interfaces, and modular system configurations so that quantum capabilities can plug into existing HPC workflows, schedulers, and facilities rather than requiring an entirely new computing stack.”
