openSUSE Leap 16 Released
The openSUSE Project has released openSUSE Leap 16.
The latest version features an updated lifecycle, a fresh software stack, a new installer, a longer support cycle, and simplified migration options. “Unless the project makes strategic changes, annual minor releases are expected to continue until 2031 with the release of Leap 16.6. A successor to Leap 16 is expected in 2032,” the announcement says.
Leap 16 also includes new hardware requirements, namely: “Leap 16 now requires x86-64-v2 as a minimum CPU architecture level, which generally means CPUs bought in 2008 or later.”
“With a newly extended support period of 24 months, Leap gives users, developers, and sysadmins one of the best and most reliable Linux experiences available,” the announcement states.
