IBM Announces Powerful New Quantum Processors

New systems will double the power of previous IBM quantum offerings.

IBM says it has successfully built and tested two new quantum processors:

  • a 16-qubit processor that will be available for cloud-based experiments through the company’s IBM Q Experience program
  • a 17-qubit prototype for a commercial processor that will be the basis for the IBM Q early-access commercial systems

The company released an API in March that is available for developers who want to start experimenting with quantum computing through the Quantum Experience service. The API lets developers build interfaces between their own classical systems and IBM’s quantum cloud.
