Silicon Mechanics announces research cluster grant.

Silicon Mechanics, a leading manufacturer of rackmount servers, storage, and high-performance computing clusters, is sponsoring a unique grant opportunity whereby a qualified institution will receive a complete high-performance compute cluster using the latest AMD Opteron processors and NVidia GPUs.

This grant program is open to all US and Canadian qualified post-secondary institutions, university-affiliated research institutions, non-profit research institutions, and researchers at federal labs with university affiliations.

Questions to consider when submitting an application include the following: How important is the proposed activity to advancing knowledge and understanding within its own field or across different fields? To what extent does the proposed activity suggest and explore creative, original, or potentially transformative concepts? To what extent does the proposed activity take advantage of the new technologies to be awarded?

Submissions will be accepted from November 14, 2011, through February 15, 2012. The grant recipient will be announced on March 15, 2012.
