AMD Expands Its High Performance Computing Fund

New resources will fund and support medical research.

AMD has announced that it is expanding its High Performance Computing Fund, adding a new Heterogeneous Compute Cluster (HACC) program and contributing an additional 7 petaflops of computing capacity. According to the press release, the contribution brings the total amount of computing power donated by AMD to 20 petaflops with a market value of US$31 million.

The company says the new resources will “...build on the AMD COVID-19 HPC Fund that was established in 2020 to provide research institutions with computing resources to accelerate medical research on COVID-19 and other diseases.” AMD will grant cloud-based access to its systems for universities and research institutions. See the AMD website for more on how to apply for a computing power grant.
