Mac OS X Lion Server Ditches MySQL in Favour of PostgreSQL
The server edition of the recently released Mac OS X Lion ships with PostgreSQL as the default database server. The MySQL database that was part of previous OS X server versions, has been removed. PostgreSQL developer Bruce Momjian comments on this fact in his blog "... a move from MySQL to Postgres seems natural, i.e. go with the best technology." A list of other software included in OS X Lion Server can be found on http://www.apple.com/macosx/server/specs.html. It includes the Apache web server, the Postfix and Dovecot mail servers, Mailman and Samba, among other free software. OS X Lion Server is about $US 50 and its licenses confines running it on Apple hardware only.
