Security updates for Windows operating systems close the critical vulnerability in the Windows Shell.

Microsoft has published updates for its operating systems that resolve the critical vulnerability in the Windows Shell. This vulnerability allows shortcuts/links on drives to be changed in such a way that exploit codes can be executed. The updates fix this security issue on the operating systems from Windows XP to Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. A comprehensive description, as well as the updates, can be found at the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-046.
