Shinken Monitoring 0.6 Introduces Autodetection

Oliver Frommel

The latest version 0.6 of the Shinken monitoring system introduces several new features.

The Shinken developers have released the latest version 0.6 of their monitoring package. It's now able to autodetect services such as HTTP, DNS, MySQL, MS SQL and Oracle databases. The developers have finished development of the overall system architecture, making it possible to set up distributed monitoring environments. The integration with VMware virtualization has been improved. For instance Shinken is now properly updating migrated VMware virtual machines.

Shinken is conceived as an alternative to the popular Nagios monitoring system. For easy migration it can even read existing Nagios configuration files. Information on the latest Shinken release can be found at http://www.shinken-monitoring.org/news/fearless-furu-aka-0-6-is-out/.
