In the third release candidate OrientDB 1.0rc3 has integrated additional optimizations concerning speed and disk space allocation. On stock hardware with a Core Duo 2.40Ghz,  3 GByte of RAM and a 5.400rpm hard disk, it claims to create 150.000 document records per second. The index manager was updated to include indexes for queries with multiple query conditions. The release candidate includes the new SQL commands "SQL ALTER CUSTER" and "SQL operator EXISTS".

OrientDB is a NoSQL database with a very low usage of resources. In contrast so many other NoSQL databases OrientDB hasn't abandoned the ACID principle (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability). OrientDB is written in Java and runs on all platforms that support Java 5 and up. It's free software with an Apache 2.0 license. For backwards compatibility OrientDB offers a SQL compatibility layer.
