ACM Launches Open Access Publishing Model

By

The ACM Open publishing model takes effect in January 2026.

Beginning this month 2026, all ACM publications and related artifacts in the ACM Digital Library will become open access through the new ACM Open publishing model.

Key benefits, according to ACM, include:

  • Unlimited open access publishing – Corresponding authors from participating institutions can publish an unlimited number of Open Access articles without article processing charges.
  • Fair and predictable pricing – ACM Open’s fixed-term pricing model helps institutions manage costs effectively while supporting Open Access publishing.
  • Premium Digital Library access – Institutions subscribing to ACM Open receive full access to the Premium version of the ACM Digital Library,

For authors, this means that “if you, or the corresponding author, are affiliated with an institution participating in ACM Open, your research will be published open access at no cost to you.” Authors also retain the intellectual property of their work.

The announcement states that “this change reflects the long-standing and growing call across the global computing community for research to be more accessible, more discoverable, and more reusable.
