Barracuda Urges Replacement of ESG Devices

Immediate replacement of devices is recommended.

Barracuda is urging customers to immediately replace Email Security Gateway (ESG) appliances regardless of patch version level, reports Alessandro Mascellino.

The announcement follows attacks observed targeting a now-patched zero-day vulnerability, says Mascellino, and the exploit is under investigation by security firm Rapid7.

"The pivot from patch to total replacement of affected devices is fairly stunning and implies the malware the threat actors deployed somehow achieves persistence at a low enough level that even wiping the device wouldn't eradicate attacker access," the Rapid7 advisory says.
