This version is the first major update in 6 years.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) recently announced version 4 of Helm, coinciding with the project’s 10th anniversary.

According to the team, this release “simplifies and enhances the safety of deploying and managing applications at scale, addressing challenges such as CI/CD complexity, security, and multi-cluster operations.”

The release includes new chart features, an improved plugin system, and an updated SDK, which offers:

  • Modern Go logging with support for multiple loggers
  • Embeddable commands
  • Support for modern versions of Kubernetes

Helm 4, which is the first major update to the Kubernetes package manager in six years, “retains the core interface and behavior” that will be familiar to users including platform engineers, DevOps teams, Kubernetes admins, and others managing modern cloud-native infrastructure.

See the Helm 4 overview for details.
