Microsoft’s CBL-Mariner is a fast and lightweight container host tailored for Azure.

Microsoft’s CBL-Mariner Linux distribution is becoming more and more important to Azure, says Simon Bisson, so it’s worth spending some time to learn about its features and capabilities.

Besides hosting the GUI features of WSL 2 in Windows 11, CBL-Mariner “is the container host in Azure Kubernetes Service and is available as a base container image in the Microsoft Container Registry, plus it supports distro-less containers on Azure,” Bisson says.
