The interaction of the OCS and OpenNMS tools shows how free applications benefit from open interfaces. Beyond the example described here, you could conceivably set the OCS attributes during the installation of the OCS agents, when rolling out the systems involved with Puppet [11] or Chef [12].

The Author

Ronny Trommer and Mark Neumann are founding members of the non-profit association OpenNMS Foundation Europe. The development was initiated in the OpenNMS project in 2013 during the Google Summer of Code and accompanied by Markus Neumann as a mentor. Ronny Trommer also lectures on Integrated Networking at Fulda University's department of Applied Computer Science.
