The new system features the Telum II processor with AI acceleration.

IBM has announced IBM LinuxONE Emperor 5, a Linux computing platform powered by the IBM Telum II processor with built-in AI acceleration. This release marks the fifth generation of IBM LinuxONE and, according to the company, the system combines “enterprise security, performance and scalability with Linux and open source workloads including hybrid cloud and AI applications.”

LinuxONE 5 aims to help organizations “reduce operational complexity and optimize their IT infrastructure by consolidating workloads across multiple servers onto a single high-capacity system.” For example, the company states, “moving cloud-native, containerized workloads from a compared x86 solution to an IBM LinuxONE 5 running the same software products can save up to 44% on the total cost of ownership over 5 years.”

The available operating systems for LinuxONE 5 are Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and Canonical Ubuntu Server.
