Rust Innovation Lab Launched

The Rust Foundation-backed initiative aims to sponsor relevant open source projects.

The Rust Foundation has created the Rust Innovation Lab, a new program designed to provide fiscal sponsorship to “relevant and well-funded open source projects.” Such sponsorship may include “governance, legal, networking, marketing, and administrative support,” the foundation says.

The first hosted project within the Rust Innovation Lab is Rustls – “a memory-safe, high-performance, and flexible TLS library.” According to the announcement, “Rustls demonstrates Rust’s ability to deliver both security and performance in one of the most sensitive areas of modern software infrastructure.”

With support from the Rust Innovation Lab, “funded projects gain the strength of a neutral nonprofit organization, expert guidance, and access to the wider Rust ecosystem,” the Rust Foundation says.
