SUSE has announced the general availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 16, featuring a built-in framework for Agentic AI.

According to the announcement, SLES 16 integrates Agentic AI directly into the infrastructure layer, including the Model Context Protocol (MCP) host as a technology preview.

This release also:

• Introduces Agama as the system installer, replacing YaST.
• Uses Cockpit in place of YaST2 for remote management.
• Transitions from AppArmor to SELinux as the default Mandatory Access Control (MAC) framework.
• Includes Ansible to enable automation out of the box.

Other features of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 include:

• Extended lifecycle model: As a major release, SLES 16 will have a total of 16 years of support. Minor releases will include 2 years of general support, with an option for 3 additional years of LTS support.
• Instant rollback default everywhere: Admins can instantly roll back nearly any modification – from a full system upgrade to a single configuration change.
• Reproducible builds: SLES 16 is the first enterprise Linux distribution built entirely with reproducible builds.
