Open Compute Project and SNIA Form Alliance to Tackle Data Storage Challenges
The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) and SNIA, a not-for-profit organization that develops global data standards and specifications, have announced a new alliance “to advance vendor-neutral standards and technologies for data storage within open data center hardware ecosystems.”
According to the organizations, the alliance is especially focused on data storage, memory, and networking challenges presented by AI.
“Overall, the collaboration scenario emphasizes mutual promotion of open, interoperable technologies to optimize data center performance, reduce vendor lock-in, and support emerging needs like AI and edge computing,” the announcement says.
“SNIA and OCP working together provide a complementary neutral alliance for data center operators like hyperscalers and neoclouds to work alongside vendors on open solutions that unlock the high-performance data services required for AI infrastructure," says Dr. J Metz, SNIA Chair.
