What’s the Lifespan of an SD Card?
Ever wondered how SD (or flash memory) cards work and how long they should last?
“An SD card built to specification should last around 10 years,” says Sydney Butler, “but the actual lifespan depends heavily on many factors.”
“SD cards use flash memory, a non-volatile memory type that retains data even when the power is off, making it ideal for portable storage devices,” Butler explains.
But, factors such as the quality of the card, how frequently it’s used, and environmental conditions like heat and humidity can significantly impact how long a card will last.
