Google recently fended off an HTTPS DDoS attack that peaked at 46 million requests per second (RPS), reports Syeven J. Vaughan-Nichols, making it the largest Layer 7 attack on record.

In this article, Vaughan-Nichols describes how the event — which lasted a total of 69 minutes — played out and was blocked by Google’s Cloud Armor. The moral of the story, he says, is that “no matter whether you run a simple web server on your own bare metal or complex web services for a Fortune 500 company, you need DDoS protection.”
