Trinity Rescue Kit

Article from ADMIN 05/2011
By

This issue of ADMIN comes with the Trinity Rescue Kit (TRK) [1] [2], a menu-based, command-line rescue and repair Linux distro. TRK integrates a full set of tools for maintaining Linux, Windows, and Mac machines. TRK is famed for its password resetting capabilities and its "Swiss-Army-knife-like versatility [3].

TRK version 3.4 comes with six consoles (the first accessible through Alt + F1), data recovery tools, and SSH and Samba servers. Integrated antivirus scanners include ClamAV, F-Prot, Avast, BitDefender, and Vexira, wrapped into a unified command-line menu.

TRK can boot from CD, USB stick, or even over the network. Among other things, TRK Linux lets you reset Windows passwords, recover dying hard disks, clone computers over a network, clean up Windows junk files, read and write to NTFS partitions, and edit partition layouts.
