Using Linux to Build a Network of Public Phones
An “amateur phone collective” in Philadelphia is using Linux to build a network of public phones, reports Klaatu at Opensource.com.
The PhilTel project, which was inspired by Futel in Portland, Oregon, aims to preserve public telephone infrastructure and allow anyone to make free calls within North America.
In this article, Mike Dank describes the project’s efforts “to change the trajectory of phone communication by reviving some old concepts” and explains how the project incorporates tools such as Linux, OpenWRT, and WireGuard.
